1: When your home has a high heat demand

The amount of heat needed to warm up your home and provide hot water is called its "heat demand". For homes that require a lot of heat, a single heat pump might not be enough to keep the temperature comfortable, especially if you're using electricity from your home's power supply. 

Good quality radiators or underfloor heating can help heat pumps work better and save energy. In addition, properly insulated homes can also help reduce energy consumption.  

If you have a big house and it's difficult or costly to insulate it properly, or if you need more than one heat pump to keep your house warm, your installer may suggest different options. These could include installing a hybrid heat pump, a high-temperature heat pump, or a twin heat pump installation. These solutions can help keep your home warm effectively. 

Generally, the largest size of heat pump you can install on a standard (single phase) domestic electricity supply is 14kW. However, using either a hybrid, high-temperature or cascade system, you can find a solution for heating most homes.

2. The heat pump can be used for heating, and the boiler can be used only for heating water. If you have a combi boiler, you won't need a separate cylinder for hot water when using the heat pump.
