  • Heat Emitters: ASHPs work most efficiently with larger radiators or underfloor heating, which have a bigger surface area to transfer heat at lower temperatures. You might need to upgrade your existing radiators, which adds to the installation cost.
  • Outside Space: You'll need somewhere outside your home to install the outdoor unit. It needs good airflow around it and should ideally be located where noise won't be a nuisance to you or your neighbours (modern units are much quieter than older ones, but it's still a factor).
  • Installation Complexity: Installing a heat pump is a different job to fitting a boiler. It requires specific skills and knowledge to design and set up the system correctly for optimal performance and efficiency. Choosing an MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) certified installer is crucial, especially if you want to access government grants.
